The Association of Human Resources Managers in the Hospitality Industry (AHRM) awarded the title of the 18th Mabuhay Gold – Hotelier of the Year to Merril Yu. This Filipino hotelier has been a constant source of inspiration to many budding hoteliers.
An Accomplished Hotelier
Merril worked with the world’s leading hotel brands such as the Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts, The Peninsula Group and MGM Mirage. He was Vice President for Hotels, Executive Director, General Manager and Resident Manager in San Francisco, Auckland, Jakarta, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Kota Kinabalu, Las Vegas, Xiamen and Manila. He developed, opened and managed China’s biggest hotel, Xianglu GRAND Xiamen with 1,525 guestrooms from 2004 to 2007. Back in the Philippines in 2007, Merril led the SM Groups entry into hotels, convention centers and gaming as Senior Vice President, SM Investment Corporation’s Hotel Investment Group; in 2008 followed as President for SM Hotels and in 2009, Executive Vice President of SM Hotels & Entertainment as it joined its siblings to become the 5th core business of the country’s largest conglomerate joining SM Malls, SM Land, SM Retail and Banking.
Sunish Sadasivan
Guest Speaker at Travel Distribution Summit Asia
Sunish attended Eye for Travel, Travel Distribution Summit Asia 2013 as a guest speaker and panelist for revenue management. He’s currently working with FilArchipelago Hospitality Inc. as Corporate Director of Revenue Management and E-Distribution.
A Seasoned Distribution Specialist
Sunish is an effective communicator with strong analytical and proven leadership abilities. With a stellar track record, he has driven solid RevPAR growth through analysis of mix, implementation of group ceilings, successful corporate account rate negotiations, and internet visibility. His future goals include honing his revenue management skills in a senior corporate capacity.
His current role involves the use of a variety of revenue management tools, financial documents and market research data to critique and analyze past performance and develop strategies for the future. In conjunction with each hotel’s General Manager and Director of Sales and Marketing, he has also managed the planning, execution and analysis of revenue and hotel distribution strategies to deliver optimal revenue and profit returns for each hotel.
